Fits my old work well. Where was this when I was getting my M.A.? Lol
So here I am at the end of my MFA experience. Surreal to say the least.
Sounds
In progress art. Graphite cast of vinyl record. Sound is inverted and looped. Caught a nice and funky beat for this one, enjoy! #art #vinyl #recordplayer #graphite
Yup.
The summer of 2014 has been a productive one. And no, I'm not just talking about the netflix-binge-watching. I'm talking about the volunteering, the reaching out to the dekalb community by way of art, specifically mural painting. I was eagerly approached by my friend, Eric Fuertes, a fulltime 3D foundations Instuctor at NIU, to help advise/paint murals in total of 4 for the Upward Bound College Bridge Summer Camp. http://www.niu.edu/precollegiate/CBP/Index.shtml

We then asked ourselves what could we further do to spread the gospel of art and community in Dekalb? Enter Camp Power, a summer camp for the children of university Village. What an amazing community! The parents are very well connected with one another. The children are well mannered and extremely talented! With the help of the parents and camp counselors, completing the mural in record time was made easy!

Finally, a proud day, the campers graduate and go out in style!

This will indeed be a hard summer to top, on to the rest of the year!
ANIMALS is an upcoming comic series written by artist Allen Moore.
Taking place in the late 80’s, early 90’s, Animals circles around a community of children living in a morally, social and economically bankrupt township. Filled with a corrupt local government and crooked police and with no support system. The disempowered youth create a local support system in which the children take care of one another, stealing only to support one another, creating an equal community in which each child has a specific function, a moral and empathetic partition within a derelict system.
It is a struggle between the individual cogs versus the larger machine. In spite of racial and economical injustice, the children create a thriving and harmonious ecosystem.
In time of crisis and war, the children come together like the Ancient Greek Phalanx, to from a precise, focused prong of wrath and vengeance. They bear the mask of a raccoon, in honor of its cunning, clever and inconspicuous nature. The mask signifies the raccoon’s will to scavenge and survive, and it’s ferocious temperament when backed in a corner. The color red on the cover is a signifier for government, a rational and objective reference, an alternative, to a system that in its purest and most efficient form, could be a large part of the equation to the current social and economical condition.

Drawing progress: slow but getting there
Hopefully what I have learned in my last few installations will show through this painting. Trying to crack the code between contemporary and kitsch. One or both....
This year I've been anxious to get my ideas out of my head, as quickly as possible!
Working out a new piece
Awesome night. Congratulations to the winners.
